From volleyball class
One thing I learned in class two days ago that I thought was very interesting was that you’re not supposed to forearm pass down your mid-line. You’re supposed to keep your passing plane on one side or the other (one likely is more comfortable than the other); it helps when you’ve got a floater coming up on you, so you can just raise your arms while lowering your opposite shoulder, rather than having to jump or find the ball in your chest. Hmm.
The other thing about passing was that, with a three-across serve-receive, you’ll face a little on the diagonal to the left, and your “area” is deep on your left and short on your right. Kind of like this: / / /. It makes sense, too—you know which ball is yours and which is the other guy’s. “Coach” (former BYU All-American Nina Puikkonen Mortensen) also said to keep your eye on how high the ball is coming on the serve, and then on its the height as it crosses the tape. That’ll tell you how long or short it’ll be dropping. Hmm. Nifty.
