Grad school response No. 4

Thank you for your interest in Notre Dame's Graduate Program in English. Unfortunately, we are unable to offer you admission into our program. We received over 300 applications for eight slots, so the level of competition was very high.

Because we receive so many applications, we are unable to provide comments on individual applications.

Best of luck in your future endeavors.

Your Dad's right, love. The Lord wants to take us in a direction slightly different than we thought, but we will reach the end that was intended for us. And I still believe you will be a university professor. :)

Don't lose heart. Sometimes the right situation is not right yet. Like your amazing cookies...you might have to go through a little heat before your situation is perfect to eat...uh, that is where my analogy falls apart. Anyway, hang in there, dude! Grad School will happen if you let these "no'no" letters propel you forward!

Hi Teag,

I appreciate your support. It's definitely an interesting time for us. By the time we heard back from Notre Dame (the last of the schools I applied to to respond), I had been fully prepared for another rejection, so it definitely was easier. And we feel like it's an answer to our prayers just as much as an acceptance would be.

The trick is that now we have the interesting task of figuring out what to do. On top of that, we're faced with a decision about where to move and when -- as well as whether, I suppose.

Let's just say it's easier when you know ingredients you have for your cookies before you start baking! :) (I made peanut butter cookies last night.)

In everyone's life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit. ~Albert Schweitzer

But if the while I think on thee, dear friend,
All losses are restored and sorrows end.
~William Shakespeare

You arevery blessed indeed, my son.

No, actually I agree with all the comments above - not that it makes it any easier to understand all that. Anyway, we're looking forward to hanging out with you next week! (well, this week actually :) )
